Tanzania safari across open plains

Tanzania safari journeys

Private Land Cruisers, camps we know by season, and guides who read tracks. From short Big Five introductions to migration focuses, cultural blends, remote southern parks, and bush-to-beach finales on Zanzibar.

Classic parks

Premier northern wildlife circuits

Private game drives through Tarangire, Manyara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro, from short migration focuses to the full northern loop. Season, lodge tier, and crater timing are briefed before you travel, not left as surprises on the road.

Plains and people

Wildlife and cultural combinations

Game viewing paired with Maasai, Hadzabe, Datoga, and Rift Valley communities, days that feel lived-in, not staged. Hosts set photography rules; we keep groups small and contributions clear.

Summit then plains

Kilimanjaro trekking and safari combines

Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, and Meru warm-ups finished with private wildlife days in the northern parks. Recovery nights are protected so summit fatigue does not steal the first safari dawn.

Savanna to sand

Bush to beach and Zanzibar getaways

Northern safari time then a domestic flight to the spice island, honeymoon pacing, express hybrids, and longer beach finishes with tide-aware hotel advice.

Hidden tracks

Southern and western wilderness

Nyerere, Ruaha, Mikumi, Udzungwa, Gombe, and Mahale, quieter parks, rivers, chimpanzees, and fly-in camps for travellers who want fewer vehicles and wilder horizons.

Bucket-list journeys

Mega comprehensive grand tours

Two to four weeks linking Kilimanjaro, the great herds, southern rivers, western lakes, and Zanzibar in one continuous arc, paced with recovery nights so the story compounds instead of exhausting you.

Included on every safari spine

Calving on the southern short-grass plains is roughly January to March. Northern river-crossing drama usually peaks July to October. The herds move; we name the Serengeti sector in writing before deposit. Read best time to visit the Serengeti then pick a migration-focused itinerary from these safari packages.
A classic northern loop through Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti gives the best honest chance at lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. Rhino is most consistent on the crater floor, not a guarantee on every plains drive. The northern circuit guide maps a realistic park order.
Six to eight days lets you sleep in more than one park and avoid a single frantic crater morning. Four days is a strong introduction. Three days is possible after Kilimanjaro if you accept a fast rhythm. Filter this page by duration, or start from the Classic Big Five safari.
Yes if you care about bathroom stops, photography, and not leaving a sighting because another couple is hungry. Our standard Tanzania safaris are private vehicles with a pop-up roof. Shared trucks belong to a different product. Families and mixed ages especially feel the difference on Ngorongoro descent days.
Lodges are solid rooms, often with more space and a pool. Tented camps put canvas closer to grass and night sounds, still with proper beds. Adventure and Comfort tiers on the same package usually share the park spine and differ in finish. We quote both so you compare canvas versus masonry, not a secret second itinerary. See nights listed on each safari package.
Crater service and park fees are separate line items in Tanzania. A clear quote names both. If a price looks too low, crater morning is often missing. We spell this out on the package page and again in the outline from Plan your trip. The safari cost guide shows why the crater day is never a free extra.
Yes as an optional dawn activity when the camp sector and season allow. It is not built into every from-price. We add it in writing with the pickup time so you are not woken for a surprise invoice. Mention ballooning when you request a Serengeti-heavy itinerary.
April and May are greener, with fewer vehicles and dramatic skies. Some remote camps close; tracks can be slower. Birding and fewer crowds are the trade. If you need guaranteed migration crossings, wait for the dry-north window instead. We will say so honestly on Contact rather than sell a crossing you cannot reach.
Many lodges work from about six or seven if the day is not a twelve-hour transfer. Toddlers struggle with heat, dust, and crater hours. We shorten drives, keep a picnic rhythm, and avoid packing too many parks. A Tarangire day trip can test wildlife patience before a full circuit.
A well-hosted Maasai or village visit sits cleanly on a travel day if it is booked as exchange, not a roadside photo stop. We brief respectful behaviour. See cultural combinations on this safari list, or a dedicated cultural day trip from Arusha if you only have one free day.
Wildlife first, beach last is the usual order: dust and dawn drives, then humidity and swimming. Flying from the Serengeti or Arusha to the island is the clean handoff. A full northern loop plus beach nights is laid out on the complete Tanzania wildlife and Zanzibar combo. Also browse safari and Zanzibar packages and the safari plus Zanzibar itinerary guide.
Northern parks sit at varying altitudes; many guests still take prophylaxis after talking to a clinician. Camps are not mosquito-free. We are not your doctor. We will still place nights and mention season when we design the route.
Neutral layers, a fleece for crater dawn, dust-tolerant shoes, and a small binoculars beat heavy luggage. Domestic flights have strict weight. Soft bags help. Pair this with the northern circuit itinerary guide if you are stacking parks, then confirm laundry rhythm in your lodge notes.
A same-day Tarangire or lake run is possible if you land early and accept a tired first game drive. Most guests sleep Arusha, then start properly at dawn. We can collect from JRO and hotel the same evening. Put flight times on the planner so we do not sell a 5 a.m. crater descent after a red-eye.
Send month, nights, who travels, and whether migration or a gentle Big Five loop matters more. We reply with park order, lodge style, and what the price includes. Climb-then-safari spines such as the Lemosho trek and Serengeti explorer can be reshaped the same way. Use Plan your trip or Contact.
